New, aggressive forms of immunosuppression and an increasing population
of
patients at risk provide fertile ground for opportunistic invasive
fungal
infections (IFIs). Particularly challenging is the changing epidemiology
of
IFIs: rare pathogens are now more common and resistant strains are
emerging
among species that are generally considered to be sensitive. Staying one
step ahead of this evolving epidemiology is a major task and some 400
delegates, from 44 countries, learned that although there has been
considerable progress, more is needed.
