Monica is Chair of Infections in Cancer and Transplantation at the University of Melbourne and Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia. Her research focuses on diagnosing, preventing and treating opportunistic infections including invasive fungal infections in haematology and transplant patients.
Monica says:
“I have a strong appreciation for the role of JAC in the scientific community and would like to continue to support its growth and influence. I am very keen to work with BSAC to continue to raise the profile of JAC to encourage its members to submit their work to the journal and to develop new approaches to involving our younger colleagues in reviewing for the journal and in taking on editorial roles.”
Current Editor-in-Chief Dr Peter Donnelly welcomed the appointment:
“I too am pleased that BSAC has appointed Professor Monica Slavin to be my successor as Editor-in-Chief of JAC. Monica has been an Editor for JAC several years and a Senior Editor for 18 months. She has a extensive experience in publishing as an author and reviewer and has held editorial positions on Leukemia and Lymphoma, Transplant Infectious Diseases, Current Opinion in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Infectious Diseases.
Monica also has a wide range of contacts in the infectious diseases, microbiology and public health communities, which will serve the journal well into the future.”
JAC celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a special collection of articles reflecting on past achievements, examining current advancements, and looking ahead to the future of antimicrobial chemotherapy. Subscriptions to the journal play a vital role in supporting BSAC’s global efforts, and the society is excited to collaborate with Monica as the journal enters its next 50 years.
